Elements and Performance Criteria

  1. Plan and prepare to support the drilling process
  2. Prepare, operate and dismantle ancillary equipment
  3. Clean all equipment at drilling site
  4. Maintain levels of supplies
  5. Perform and report on basic measurement and calculations
  6. Carry out basic operator maintenance

Performance Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including evidence of the ability to:

undertake the following tasks to support drilling processes on at least two occasions:

setting up and dismantling ancillary equipment

carrying out services connections to and from equipment

operating and monitoring ancillary equipment

identifying and reporting stock levels.

During the above, the candidate must:

locate and apply documentation required to support drilling processes

implement requirements, procedures and techniques for the completion of supporting drilling process, including:

operating cleaning equipment

applying basic operator servicing and maintenance of plant and vehicles

applying communication procedures

using lifting equipment

work with others to support drilling processes that meet required outcomes, including:

complying with reporting requirements and procedures

communicating with others to receive and clarify work instructions

communicating with others to meet coordination requirements prior to commencing and during work activities.


Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must be able to demonstrate knowledge to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including knowledge of:

key policies, procedures and established requirements for supporting drilling processes, including those for:

work health and safety

emergencies

relevant environmental practices

equipment operation and maintenance

cleaning and storing equipment and machines

effective work practices

refuelling vehicles and equipment

communicating with other personnel throughout work activities

housekeeping

basic understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic systems

procedures for carrying out simple calculations and measurements, including using a tape measure

procedures for accessing, reading and interpreting graphical representation, including maps and diagrams

drilling team roles and objectives

basic geology.
